Removal of the Camp Sea-Gull Cafeteria Building Sealed Bids will be received by Hayes Township (Owner) at the office of the Township Clerk, 09195 Old US 31 North, Charlevoix, Michigan, 49720, until 12:00 P.M., prevailing local time on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, and then publicly opened and read aloud.Scope of the Project: Hayes Township wishes to remove the Camp Sea-Gull cafeteria building. The winning bidder must dismantle the building along with the deck and completely remove from the site, including all foundation materials. Site must be completely cleared of all debris and restored with topsoil, seed and mulch no later than June 1, 2017.
The building is 50’ x 100’ steel framed sitting on a masonry foundation with a slab on grade. The building and site can be inspected on Friday, September 16, between Noon and 2:00 PM., or by appointment, call 231-547-6961. Bidding documents may be obtained at the office of the Hayes Township Clerk. The Bidder must supply the telephone number, email, and street address of the individual or firm to whom addenda (if any) can be directed. Each bidder shall be required to have the removal performed by fully insured, qualified, and licensed individuals and/or firms. Also all appropriate permits will be the responsibility of the bidder. The right is reserved by the Owner to accept any Proposal, to reject any Proposal, and to waive irregularities in Proposals. The successful bidder will be required to provide a performance bond. Charlevoix County Hayes Township Supervisor Retires
Hayes Township will be losing a dedicated individual who has served the residents of Hayes Township for forty years. Ethel Knepp has chosen to retire from her position of Hayes Township Supervisor. Ethel is a long time resident of Hayes Township who first became involved in township government as a member of the Hayes Township Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals in 1976 having been appointed by Township Supervisor Bud Sneathen. She served in those positions until being appointed Zoning Administrator in 1982. She continued as zoning administrator until June 30, 2007.
In 1988 while still serving as zoning administrator, Ethel ran for the elected office of Township Clerk, winning the election and serving as Township Clerk until 2005. During her term as township clerk, Ethel appointed Marlene Golovich as Deputy Clerk. When Ethel resigned as clerk, the Township Board appointed Marlene to fill the clerk position. After serving as Zoning Administrator for 25 years, Ethel took a break from elected office and then ran for and won election as Hayes Township Supervisor in 2006. She has served in that position since then and will retire as supervisor when her term of office expires on November 20, 2016. (more…)
Park Camp Sea-Gull Master Plan online
The Camp Sea-Gull Park Master Plan file is available on the Hayes Township web site page for viewing and/or downloading. This report outlines the planning process and proposed projects for future conversion of the park for public use.
Camp Sea-Gull is located in Hayes Township along the north shore of Lake Charlevoix. The park is near the Dunmaglas Golf Course and surrounded by large parcels of agricultural and forest land.
The Little Traverse Conservancy owns and maintains a nature reserve to the park’s north. Once a privately owned summer camp, the park was acquired by Hayes Township in 2014 with the assistance of a DNR Trust Fund Grant.
July 18th: Hayes Township Candidate Forum
There will be a candidate forum on July 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hayes Township Hall at 9195 Old US 31 North, Charlevoix. The candidate forum is co-hosted by Sam Williamson and Tom Darnton, Hayes Township residents. Williamson is an Emeritus Professor of Economics at Miami University in Athens, Ohio and past president of the Lake Charlevoix Association. Darnton is a realtor in Charlevoix and a retired civil law attorney.
